On the morning of March 18, the inauguration ceremony for the TCM Specialty Building and the unveiling of the Rehabilitation Center of the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College (Zunyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine) were held at the Xinpu Campus of the hospital. Attendees included Zhang Jingjie, Party Leadership Group Member of the Provincial Health Commission, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM); Wang Jisong, Vice Mayor of Zunyi City; and Yu Song, Secretary of the University Party Committee. The event was hosted by Liu Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Municipal Health Bureau.
Zhang Jingjie emphasized that the completion and operation of the National Key TCM Specialty Hospital Project at the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College (Zunyi Hospital of TCM) is both a pragmatic step in advancing the national strategy for TCM development and a breakthrough for Zunyi in deepening TCM innovation, promoting industrial upgrading, and injecting new momentum into the modernization of TCM in Guizhou Province. She urged the hospital to seize this opportunity, devise innovative strategies for inheritance and development, drive the expansion of high-quality TCM resources, amplify the role of the regional TCM hub, and accelerate improvements in local TCM service capabilities and innovation to better meet public demand for TCM care.
Wang Jisong stated that the construction of the TCM Specialty Building is a crucial initiative aligned with the national "Healthy China" strategy and a key step in advancing TCM heritage, innovation, and the establishment of an integrated "prevention-treatment-rehabilitation" service system. He highlighted that the facility will optimize Zunyi’s TCM service network, providing the public with more comprehensive, accessible, and high-quality TCM services. He called for a focus on cultivating TCM-specialized departments to fully realize the building’s purpose and strive to build a provincial-level model TCM hospital.
Yang Yuelan, Member of the University Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Affiliated Hospital, noted that the hospital will leverage the national TCM specialty rehabilitation program and the new Rehabilitation Center, combined with the university’s academic strengths, to advance collaborative talent development and integrate medical technology innovation with workforce capacity-building. This aims to provide patients with high-quality, accessible integrated TCM-Western medicine rehabilitation services.
Following the ceremony, guests toured the TCM Specialty Building and the provincial TCM cultural education base.
The TCM Specialty Building is a key project under China’s 14th Five-Year Plan for TCM development and the provincial "Strengthening TCM Province" strategy, as well as a major initiative by Zunyi to deepen healthcare reform and enhance TCM services. With a total investment of 125 million yuan and a floor area of 25,000 square meters, the 12-story building was completed after two years of construction. It houses specialized zones for acupuncture, tuina (therapeutic massage), dermatology, sleep medicine, weight management, and medical-elderly care integration. The layout optimizes clinical resource allocation and delivers patient-centered, efficient care.
The event was attended by leaders and experts including Xia Shijin (a postgraduate supervisor at Fudan University), representatives from provincial hospitals such as Guizhou Provincial People’s Hospital, the First and Second Affiliated Hospitals of Guizhou University of TCM, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of TCM (Guizhou Branch), and Zunyi Medical University First Affiliated Hospital, as well as directors of municipal and county-level medical institutions, heads of township health centers, and retired leaders and experts of Zunyi Hospital of TCM.
